Oil Tank Calculator
Use this red diesel tank calculator to estimate your tank capacity, current fuel level and safe order room.
Enter the closest tank shape, approximate dimensions and current fill level to estimate how many litres the tank may hold, how much red diesel may be left and how much room may be available for a safe refill.
This tool is a planning guide only. Tank shapes, gauges and measurements can vary, so check your tank label or speak to your supplier if you are unsure how much to order.

How the red diesel tank calculator works
The calculator uses your chosen tank shape and dimensions to estimate the approximate tank volume. It then uses the current fill level to estimate how much fuel may already be in the tank and how much safe order room may be available.
Safe order room is designed to avoid assuming the tank can be filled to the absolute top. This helps make the estimate more practical when planning an order, but it is still only an estimate.
Why the result may vary
Many tanks are not perfect rectangles or cylinders. Gauge readings can also be inaccurate, especially if the gauge is old, damaged or difficult to read. Small measurement differences can change the estimated number of litres.
If your tank has a manufacturer label or official capacity plate, use that as the more reliable figure where possible.
Before ordering red diesel
Before placing an order, check:
- Your current tank level
- The approximate tank capacity
- Whether there is enough safe room for the litres you want to order
- Whether the supplier has a minimum delivery amount
- Whether the tanker can access the tank safely
- Whether any access notes should be mentioned before delivery
